New Yorkers love to make fun of Los Angeles, but mostly because they've never visited. Mileva is in her mid-eighties, and a couple of months ago went from Umag to Herpelje, to visit my mother Rosina's sister Gizela; her niece/nephew drove her there, and when she was at Gizela's house, she had them write to me, and then sent me the letter-- she wrote, "as proof" that she went to visit! Her late cousin lived in San Pedro (where somehow there are a lot of Croatians), and his wife Ljubica and her two sons, I believe, still live. Whenever I write a letter to Mileva, I give Ljubica a call to see if there is any news. If you see Mileva, do give her my best regards. Tell Ana not to make a big deal about writing in English; I can understand anything, even hieroglyphics and pictograms. Besides, it's fun to get things in the mail. One of life's great entertainments, letters are. I'm impressed with your popularity! To think that 200 students would want to take your examination! I suppose that while you were in Los angeles, they were studying assiduously. I still have the letter we began to write after lunch at Gladstone's; I was about to send it when I wondered if Bostjan is still in Celje; we have been e- mailing one another and I'm uncertain whether or not he has moved. Lately I have been tinkering with a computer, and perhaps spending too much time, because puzzles fascinate me. Eventually I will bring it up to speed so that I can use it for e-mail. Meanwhile, I'm still on text-only. E ya later Love hida 9/11/98 12:56 PM
